Harvestmath Series - Soothsayer

I have to start this post by saying that in no way, shape, or form, has the art department at Turbine come close to the level of design and form-fitting gear that Rise of Isengard provided to the community. No bodies were distorted while wearing that expansion exclusive gear. No arms or legs clipped through clothing while moving. Shoulders did not float above the model. There were three distinct sets for each armor class obtained as quest rewards. Never has an expansion made a character's appearance so individualized within its own content. When I ran my alts through Dunland and Isengard, I made sure to collect whatever I hadn't on previous runs. Did you know that Massive Black was the company to create a majority of the RoI expansion concept art?

This outfit, in fact, has mostly used gear from that expansion. If you're new to LOTRO and haven't been to Dunland yet, Devonna from LOTRO Stylist compiled a list of cosmetics and the quests that reward them. Even if you've been through Dunland and are trying to find something specific from a quest you haven't done yet, that link is still useful. You'll have multiple opportunities to snag specific skins, however you'll need to be careful. Some skins will drop from five quests while others drop from only two.

And now to the meat and potatoes of the post!

You might be asking what gave me the idea of the soothsayer, a person who is able to predict the future, namely through the gift of foresight. I had the fortune of taking a year-long college course on Tolkien. I recall we had discussed a variety of topics, including doom (as meaning "fate" or "decision") and how prophecy intertwined with it. This class, of course, was taken over six years ago, so my memory may be slightly off. We discussed Elrond's ability to see "distant" events in both meanings of the word, Glorfindel's prophecy regarding the defeat of the Witch-king, seers predicting the fall of Gondolin, the ability of mothers (elvish ones in particular) to foresee the fates of their children, Aragorn making his way to the Paths of the Dead and so on. Essentially, it's a strong motif in Tolkien's mythos.

And this outfit concludes this year's Harvestmath Series. If you live in a region that celebrates it, have a safe and enjoyable Halloween!

Make sure to check out LOTRO Player's article on The Fashion Maven, which I completely forgot to mention at the beginning of October, too! It would be nice to see the Maven grace our servers once again.
